REGINA PUT ON A SHOW!

2nd Annual Canadian National Cornhole Championships was a HUGE success!

The planning began in early January as the Sask Cornhole League was chosen as the host league for the 2022 Championships! And GRAND hosts they were! Regina was the city and over 100 players from across Canada were embarking on the second annual event.

The host committee of Darren Bradley, Damara Gabel, Parker Kentz & Kevin Newson did not miss a beat. It began with the announcement of the historic Caledonian Curling Club. “The Callie” was dressed up so beautiful. 14 lanes plus our Facebook Live Feature Court was superbly build. This crew paid attention to detail and nothing was amiss. From lane set up, to registration, concessions and so on this group hit it out of the park.

Let’s get to the tournament! Thursday was our soft opening. Starting with the Cornhole Canada Annual General Meeting. Once that wrapped up the Sask Cornhole League put on a Mini-Mixer and Blind Draw to get the weekend started. The place was electric. A sold out blind draw of 64 players took to the courts and also four Sit & Go’s.

On Friday morning Open Singles action began as players played six round robin games. Women’s Singles followed them up. The double elimination playoffs would be played on Sunday.

Our opening ceremonies took place at 4:15pm with the host committee thanking the players and sponsors. The President then awarded a commemorative plaque to the CNPS Points Leader Darren Bradley. We followed that up with the playing of our National Anthem. And Bradley on the mike announced the Top 16 Female and Male players in Canada. This had the crowd buzzing!

It was time for the BIG one. The $1000 Top 16 Championship for both Female and Male. The play was spectacular and the feature court would be filled for most of the tournament. And the first two National Champions were crowned!

As a lot of people attended the BC Lions and Saskatchewan Rough Riders CFL game there was still time to play a sold out Switcholio tournament. And in total throughout the day another eight Sit & Go’s were also played!

Saturday was Doubles day as we crowned three National Championship teams! Open began the day, followed by Woman’s and concluding with Mixed. A sold out Blind Draw also took place in the early evening.

However Saturday belonged to Presley Boehme. The 13 year old young phenom partnered with her father to claim the Mixed Doubles Championship. The arena was filled late night to watch. The atmosphere was electric and truly indescribable.

REGINA TO HOST CNCC 2022

Cornhole Canada is proud to announce that the 2022 Canadian National Cornhole Championships has been awarded to the city of Regina!

We are overjoyed to be heading to the western part of Canada. The Nationals will be played at the historic Caledonian Curling Club August 18 to 21, 2022.

The Sask Cornhole League is a founding member and the game has growth exponentially over the last year thanks to league operators Darren Bradley and Kevin Newson.

There efforts do not go unnoticed and we are excited to see what they have in store for us at the Nationals.

Bradley says, ‘We are truly honoured to be awarded the CNCC for 2022. We look forward to hosting our friends across the Country here in Regina and putting on a top notch event. Much like the Grey Cup celebrations that Regina and Saskatchewan are known for, we look to set the bar very high in terms of hospitality! Otherwise known as, we are going to throw one hell of a party!”

Stay tuned on Cornhole Canada and Sask Cornhole League socials for announcements on how to qualify, sponsorship opportunities and much, much more.

POINTS SYSTEM UNVEILED

Over the last few months Cornhole Canada has been working with the Canadian Cornhole Leagues and Scoreholio to create a National points system.

We are happy to announce the Canadian National Points System (CNPS) has been launched! The CNPS was created to establish a true National ranking for all Canadian players at no extra cost. All players are automatically entered into the CNPS and can gain points by playing in Cornhole Canada sanctioned leagues and tournaments.

Member Leagues have started submitting league results and the rankings are being updated daily. The season runs from  September 1 to July 31 each season. This all culminates at the Canadian National Cornhole Championships contested in late August. The CNPS offers players the chance to qualify through the points system.

Local and Regional Tournaments are being announced across the Country. We will keep you up to date here as we launch the tournament page soon.

Read all about the CNPS by clicking here.

OFFICIAL CANADIAN NATIONAL POINTS SYSTEM

In conjuction with Canadian Cornhole Leagues (CCL) Cornhole Canada is happy to announce a Canadian National Points System powered by Scoreholio.

There are many benefits to tracking player points. Firstly, players can now see where they stand against the rest of the players in their league, region, Province/Territory or the entire Country. Players can earn points to qualify for the Canadian National Cornhole Championships through various tournaments and local league play.

This is the first of its kind in Canada and we will have a complete introduction on October 15. You only need to be a registered participant in any sanctioned Cornhole Canada league to participate. Absolutely no cost to the players.

The stars are gonna shine! Are you the best? Prove it. We are Canadian made! #weplayCornholeCanada

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS REVIEW

What started out as a backyard dream turned into a national treasure.

Cornhole Canada was established in November of 2020. It was fourteen months in the making. We could’ve never envisioned  what was about to happen. The goal was to structure and standardize the new sport of cornhole in Canada. Very few leagues existed and a national body was not established.

Over the first few months the support was overwhelming. Leagues were started across the country. Over twenty-five leagues in the first ten months! We had built a close knit community in a very short time. Through the pandemic most leagues could not start but we kept everyone active by hosting virtual tournaments.

It was very early on that we decided that a National Championship was needed to help promote the game. The planning began in January of 2021 and we were off and running. We noticed the biggest push for players was in Ontario so the Board of Directors decided that the inaugural National Championships would be hosted there.

There are so many components that make up a national championships and our first goal was to secure a location. The Southshore Centre in Barrie was the choice mainly because of the intimate setting and picturesque view. It was a very busy July and August but in the end the event was exactly how we envisioned it.

It was great to get some national exposure as our President was on TSN Radio on the Thursday leading up to the tournament. CTV was also live at the tournament with daily reports. All this led to twelve new leagues wanting to join. And the interest is piquing!

As players from across the country began arriving Cornhole Canada hosted a social on Thursday night before the CNCC. It was great to finally meet all the people who have helped grow this beautiful community in person. Of course the boards came out with some friendly competition.

Before we knew it Friday was here. The start of the Championships! Before the tournament began the Board of Directors and member leagues hosted their first Annual General Meeting at 9am. Many things were discussed and members agree we are on the right path.

Our goal was to have 120 tournament spots available. In the end over 150 spots were sold! Over eighty players from five provinces (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Quebec) were represented. All registered players received a commemorative jersey and a special package from one of our sponsors Matt & Steve’s.

1pm arrived and the atmosphere was electric! We started with some words from the Boards of Directors. Then a ceremonial bag toss from our first official league operator Chris Schuk from Kelowna, BC. And as customary the playing of our national anthem.

Divisions played were Singles Men and Women, Doubles Open and Mixed and Teams.  We also had three blind draws and an air mail challenge. Pictures and video from all the finals will be posted soon.
